Thoughts on America

Do I like America? Oh yes, I do. I like America. Even though I was born somewhere else, it doesn’t matter; I can choose where I live. A nation is merely a social agreement among its constituents, not a fixed destiny. Patriotism is just a tool used by politicians to govern their people. Forget patriotism. I can leave one country for another whenever I want.
I am drawn to America because its people embody a pragmatism that I admire. Unencumbered by lofty ideals, they take a practical approach to life’s challenges, avoiding the tendency to complain or succumb to emotional outbursts. I prefer those who exhibit restraint, such as a skilled surgeon maintaining clinical detachment in the face of high-pressure situations.
Life is hard. But now is not the time to cry. Now is the time to find out why.
